twenty one sleeps to go I am reliably informed by my daughter and we see a city that is switched on for Christmas.
In the past two years Leeds has seen an enhanced and significantly improved range of Christmas displays in the city centre, with businesses via Leeds Business Improvement District (LeedsBID) working with artists and the local council during this festive and valuable retailing season.
The Queens Hotel is celebrating its 80th Birthday this year; LeedsBID has worked with the hotel to adorn the front facade of the building with a stunning waterfall of warm lighting.
This fabulous statement piece in City Square compliments the city’s giant Christmas tree standing proud in its traditional-style pot.
Christmas no longer stops at Park Row, as we see new festive animations in Wellington Place, the delicate, intriguing tree lanterns and tree lights both returning to Park Square and an illuminating installation is coming soon to Central Square Piazza.
As for our diverse shopping centres, they too offer exciting and engaging animations - a wishing tree in St John’s Centre, Santa’s Post Box at the Merrion Centre, the Murmuration Cloud in The Light and Trinity’s giant Wishmas Tree while Spirit, which stunned commuters in Leeds Station last Christmas, now can be seen flying high in the beautiful surroundings of Victoria Quarter.
With the city’s Park and Ride services and now a lunchtime shoppers’ bus from the West End to Victoria Gate, everything you need to buy, see and experience is in the city centre and it’s even easier and quicker to get to, helping make the Christmas experience in Leeds bigger, better and more memorable.
If you are like me and leave Christmas to the last minute, physically purchasing the goods in Leeds rather than relying on ‘online delivery’ is the only way I can be assured that I’ve got it sorted!
And once the shopping is done, Leeds certainly knows how to enjoy a great and safe night out. With Christmas parties, cocktails and shows, there is certainly no time for sleeping. #ChristmasInLeeds
