Amateur RL: Marlins pay a hefty price for derby success

Prop-forward John Elkington suffered a fractured eye socket scoring Milford’s opening try and is facing a long lay-off.

Tom Barnes scored two tries for Marlins, whose man of the match was front-rower Eddie Wilson. Zak Snellgrove, Tom Wilson and Dave Warren got the others, and Ryan Oxtoby kicked five goals.

Ryan Chalkley scored a try and two goals for Shaw Cross. Other try scorers were Sam Ottenwell (2), Ross Roebuck and Brandon French, and Will Gledhill added a goal.

Hunslet Warriors slipped deeper into relegation danger following a 40-16 loss to visitors Normanton Knights, who are coached by former Hunslet Hawks player Paul Seal. Caldon Bravo, Dave Norton and Karl Featherstone were Warriors’ try scorers. Jordan Gale and man of the match Darrell Forster kicked a goal each.

Normanton’s Nathan Tuckerman scored a brace of tries and six goals.

Other try scorers were Arron Butterfield, James Senkiw, Clarke Thompson, Chris Woolford and Luke Molloy.

Depleted East Leeds were crushed 74-6 at Underbank Rangers after trailing 52-0 at half-time.

Luke Tomlinson scored their lone try, converted by Tom Sheldrake, 12 minutes into the second half, but was sent off moments later for dissent.

Thornhill Trojans were denied by a last-gasp penalty goal as they drew 18-18 at Salford City Roosters.

Joss Ratcliffe bagged a brace of tries for Thornhill, Luke Haigh and Jake Ratcliffe also crossed and Sam Ratcliffe landed one goal.

Leaders Hunslet Club Parkside lost 18-14 at Blackbrook.
