A NUMBER of homes in Leeds were evacuated yesterday (July 13) when a ‘suspicious object’ was found in a garden.

Police were called to Roxholme Grove in Potternewton at around 3.15pm when the object was uncovered by someone digging.

The street had been cordoned off and neighbouring homes had been evacuated as a precuation while officers at the scene consulted with bomb disposal colleagues.

A spokesman said further investigations had revealed the object was a piece of sandstone.

The cordon has now been lifted and officers have stood down.
