Police said that they understood a youth had fallen from the roof of premises next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, in the Wyther Lane area between Kirkstall and Bramley, but were unable to provide further details.

An eyewitness from nearby Victoria Park Avenue said: "We heard a helicopter flying very low and looked up to see the air ambulance. It landed in a very small area, on the site of a demolished pub and some paramedics came out and walked towards some derelict industrial units, where other emergency services were already gathered.

"Dozens of residents came out of their homes to watch what was going on. Some said that someone had fallen off or through a roof near the units, which are near the Leeds Liverpool Canal."

The incident comes just weeks after two similar falls from disused buildings in Garforth and Armley. In both cases a young boy was seriously injured.
