A Leeds woman will be partying like it’s ‘a 99’ after winning 10 litres of her dream ice cream.

Abi Larter, of Chapel Allerton, will celebrate her upcoming 40th birthday in style with the huge delivery of Mackie’s rhubarb and custard flavour.

The therapeutic practitioner won a competition to create a new variety of the Scottish brand’s sweet treats, and used Yorkshire’s rhubarb-producing heritage as her inspiration.

The company will now supply Abi with everything else she needs to throw the perfect ice cream-themed party, including a portable barbecue, sandpit, paddling pool, balloons, chocolate, crisps and a band.

“Rhubarb is, of course, a bit of a local specialty and the whole family are big fans of rhubarb and custard sweets, so we thought it would be nice to see that great combination make an appearance in Mackie’s ice cream,” said Abi.

“I always wanted my own ice cream van when I was a kid and now I’ve got an opportunity to be the ice cream lady at the party!”

She and her husband first became fans of Mackie’s while living in Glasgow, and have decided to honour their Scottish links by holding a traditional ceilidh at the party,

“It’ll be brilliant getting to share our flavour with all our friends and family, especially as I’m hoping to have the party for my 40th.”
