A tale of Osama, Orwell and Trump... in pictures

The Yorkshire Post picture grid is a vertable melting pot of news imagery, often throwing up bizarre juxtapositions...

The picture grid is the newspaper equivalent of a station thronging with commuters, all of them coming from somewhere and heading off somewhere else. Some linger a while, while others come and go in the blink of an eye. They each have their own stories to tell but together they form their own narrative, reflecting a point in history which will never be repeated.

A snapshot of the grid today just before 9am revealed pictures of legendary guerrilla fighter Che Guevara, who fought with Fidel Castro in Cuba, next to Osama bin Laden, who is next to a shot of George Orwell.

The grid contains three images of Donald Trump: giving a thumbs up, doing a gorilla pose and shouting. One picture shows a 'Nordic wooden box', presumably destined for the lifestyle pages, while another is a stock picture of a motorist filling up with petrol, the story being about Theresa May's pledge not to punish drivers of older diesels following a commitment to crack down on their modern usage.

There are other pictures of a tree protest in Sheffield, food images from The Dam Inn, Newmillerdam, which is being reviewed, and Leeds University lecturer Nir Airelli, who has wrote a book history book on foreign war volunteers, from Byron to Bin Laden... which brings us full circle.
