The leader of Leeds City Council spoke of her pride and privilege today as she received the CBE at Buckingham Palace.
Coun Judith Blake was given the honour in recognition of her service to local government.
She said: “I’m deeply honoured and tremendously proud to accept this award and today has been an unforgettable experience.
“Over the years, it’s always been an absolute privilege to represent the people of Leeds and to work alongside so many organisations, partners and communities dedicated to seeing the city achieve its phenomenal potential.
“This award is recognition not just for myself, but for all of us who believe in Leeds and who will continue to do their utmost to see the city flourish both now and in the future.”
Coun Blake has been a ward councillor for more than 20 years.
