Wacky races will not take place in a West Yorkshire village on New Year’s Day for the first time in several years.
Sharlston Soap Box Derby, which usually sees competitors hurtle through the village on New Year’s Day in home-made carts, has been cancelled.
A statement on the organisers’ Facebook page said: “Unfortunately the Sharlston Soap Box Derby will not be on this New Year’s Day. I would sincerely like to thank everyone for their support over the last five years.”
No other official reason was given but organisers added that the event, which raises money for charitable causes, may return in the future.
More than 1,000 spectators watched last year’s Derby, where a dozen teams competed for a cash prize.
