Main Line Social close in on Leeds Combination Premier title

Mark Ferguson’s hat-trick spearheaded a dominant 6-1 win for the leaders over Whitkirk Wanderers, with Luke Kitson, Ryan Sharrocks and substitute Joe Cryer also getting on the scoresheet.

A win tomorrow evening at home to Colton will ensure Main Line secure the title with a game to spare.

HT Sports are no longer in control of their own destiny but ensured they remain just two points off the top when they thrashed second-bottom Kippax Sundays 9-0.

They will see out their campaign with a trip to Barsdsey on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Kirkstall Crusaders lost further ground on the top two when they went down 3-2 at home to Leeds Met, for who Sam Evans, Jack Crook and Joe Fitzpatrick were all on target.

Colton FC and Bardsey fought out a 3-3 draw.

In Division Two, FC Scholes need just one point to ensure a title that has long seemed theirs is secured, the runaway leaders enhancing their silverware prospects with a 5-1 win at fifth-placed Harehills WMC.

Two goals from Ben Bedford ensured third-placed Churwell are still in a position to mathematically catch Scholes in a comprehensive 6-1 win at seventh-placed Western Juniors OB, Liam Briggs, Billy Lumsden and Connor Sikora, also getting on the scoresheet with Terry Palmer replying for the hosts.

In the weekend’s only other Division Two game, Shane Collins was in at the double to help sixth-placed Pudsey Bojangles edge out second-bottom West Yorkshire Falcons, Greg Sargeant also finding the net for the victorious visitors.

Little London ensured the title race became even more intense in Division Three when they beat leaders Old Crooked Clock 3-0 at home.

Mark Hill, Ryan Mills and Kyle Jeffery all got on the scoresheet for a victory that leaves the hosts just one point behind the leaders, with two games in hand.

Third-bottom Bramley Amateurs stunned third-placed Headingley Rovers when Anthony Thorpe’s hat-trick gave them a 3-2 away win, the hat-trick hero’s winners coming in the 80th minute after Jason Clark and Michael Evans had ensured parity for the hosts beforehand.

A 2-1 win over Athletico Bramley for Leeds Hyde Park ensured they closed the gap on Rovers to just one point, while fifth-placed Leeds Alpha remain in a promising position to pip the two teams immediately above them to third spot.

That’s partly because they have three games in hand on both their rivals, but also thanks to a comprehensive 5-0 win over eighth-placed Bramley Lions.

Jamal Stewart was the star of the show for Alpha with four goals, getting the ball rolling when he broke Lions’ resistance in the 36th minute.

The floodgates opened in the second half, however, with Jospeh Colley making it 2-0 on 55 minutes before Stewart ran amok with three further strikes in the last 20 minutes to seal a memorable day.

AFC Daisy remain close to Alpha, however, and boosted their own outside chances of a third-placed finish with an 8-3 win on the road at Swarcliffe.

Division Four leader North Leodis look continued their march to the title with a 4-0 win at sixth-placed Club 97.

Max Ballard, Hugo Lee, Joshua Jepson and Grady Marshall all found the back of the net.

Second-placed Sporting Pudsey brought their regular season to an end with a 2-1 defeat at Oakley.

Spartak Leodis, currently in fifth, were in impressive form when boosting their chances of overhauling fourth-placed North Leeds when they hammered the visitors 6-0.

Suniel Makh was the driving force behind the convincing triumph with a hat-trick, Havar Munir, Omar Camara and Jordan Broadbent also getting on the scoresheet.
