Scotland’s Golf Coast – East Lothian – sits invitingly just to the east of the capital, Edinburgh. On 30 miles of stunning coastline lie the greatest concentration of Championship links golf courses in the world.
Combined with attractive parkland courses, Scotland’s Golf Coast has a range of courses to suit all budgets and levels of ability.
To add to that, all the courses are within 30 minutes of each other. From the bucket-list tracks of Muirfield, Gullane No1 and North Berwick, to the lesser known Winterfield, Longniddry and historic nine holes of Musselburgh Links, there is something for every golfer.
As a result of its location, East Lothian also benefits from the climate. The driest region in Scotland, the well-draining land offers unrivalled year-round golf.
Celebration of the world’s best
This year is a celebration of golf on Scotland’s Golf Coast. For the fourth year in a row, the Renaissance will host the world’s best at the Genesis Scottish Open (July 7-10).
Meanwhile, in August, Muirfield will host the AIG Women’s Open (August 4-7). Having hosted the Open 16 times, this is the first time the women’s event will head to Muirfield.
Opportunity to learn
For those who don’t play, there’s always the opportunity to learn. Many of the courses have fantastic short-game facilities and practice ranges, and there’s never a putting green too far away.
If you’d rather enjoy the non-golf aspect of the region, then there is much on offer.
Distilleries and dining
Scotland’s Food and Drink County has superb restaurants, from fine dining to fish ‘n’ chips, using the best of the local produce.
While for those wanting a tipple, distilleries for both whisky and gin and local beers are plentiful.
Off the course, you can enjoy the fascinating Scottish Seabird Centre, the National Museum of Flight, the John Muir Way and Tantallon Castle.
The welcome is warm in the towns of Gullane, Dunbar, Aberlady and North Berwick – and you may need more than one trip to fit everything in!
