THE FIRST residents have moved into a highly sought after development in York, which has seen the former Grade II listed Shipton Street School and grounds transformed into 38 new, unique eco homes, which offer residents reduced energy bills and have less impact on the environment.

Bootham Green has been developed by respected Yorkshire companies Rushbond and Advent Developments and has proved to be hugely popular with all the homes selling off plan within a matter months.

Speaking on behalf of the developers, Chris Hildreth explained: “Bootham Green has really hit the mark with buyers looking for a home within walking distance of York City Centre.

“The scheme’s green credentials, extensive landscaped areas and superb mix of old and new has really appealed and we are delighted to see the first residents moving in.”

Dominic Collenso, his wife Laura and four month old daughter Nell were one of the first families to move into the scheme.

Dominic said: “As soon as we heard about the innovative plans for the old school we knew that we wanted to find out more.

“Once we had seen the computer generated imagery of Bootham Green we decided to put down a deposit. Now that it is complete our home is even better than we expected.

“The converted former school building has created a really unique, light living space, which opens onto a lovely garden.”

He added: “We are delighted with our beautiful new family home.”

The building has been tastefully transformed into a series of modern living spaces, which, while offering people all the mod-cons they could wish for, have kept some of the character features of the impressive building, thereby safeguarding it for the immediate future.

Ben Hudson, managing partner at Hudson Moody, the estate agents responsible for marketing the scheme said they had received hundreds of enquiries in the first few weeks of the development being announced.

He added: “What sets Bootham Green apart from other new homes developments is the unique design and attractive combination of character and style of contemporary new build and conversion homes.

“There are unique design elements throughout every home and having received over 400 enquiries within the first few months of launching the development, we always knew that Bootham Green would become one of York’s biggest success stories.”

Chris continues: “We have gone to great lengths to respect the original buildings whilst enhancing the whole streetscape through the new-build element. There’s no doubt this development has truly enhanced the area with some stunning homes that will be an integral part of the local community for generations to come.”
