Leeds among the fastest growing foodie cities

Leeds is among the fastest growing foodie cities in the UK, according to the latest figures charting pub, bar and restaurant openings.

The quarterly report from MarketGrowthMonitor revealed a 22.3 per cent increase in the number of food and drink sites in the city during the five years up to March 2016.

Leeds came second only to Cardiff in terms of percentage increase and even beat London, which saw its venues grow by 13.4 per cent over the same period.

The total number of food and drink venues in Leeds stood at 335, compared to 263 in York and 389 in Newcastle.

Food-led venues increased by more than a third, while drink-led rose by 10 per cent.
