The new estate is part of a major project to develop the huge site in east Leeds, which is already home to a business park and The Springs shopping centre.

Further commercial units, a sport and leisure park, a railway station, another 7,000 new homes and more mixed-use development are planned for the area in the next decade.

The Redrow site consists of three types of property - a three-storey, four-bedroom townhouse; a two-bedroom apartment and a four-bedroom detached home.

Apartments start from £164, 950, townhouses from £349,950 and four-bedroom properties from £369,950.

Redrow staff are now showing potential buyers around townhouses on the first phase of the project, called The Point, but visitors must book slots in advance and social distancing guidelines will be enforced.

Redrow sales director Steve Jackson said: “We’ve put a range of steps in place to ensure the safety of customers and our staff.

“We’ve installed hand sanitiser stations and rearranged our furniture and seating areas. Visitors are welcome to view the show home and will be given disposable gloves to wear during the tour. Although our sales consultant won’t be able to accompany them around the property, there is plenty of signage within our show homes and consultants will also be able to use digital technology to show them the development and individual properties.”

The show homes were finished just before lockdown and there was already a waiting list to view them.

Thorpe Park's housing developments will be connected to The Springs, the business park and Leeds city centre by a network of cycle and footpaths.

The site - also called the East Leeds Extension - will benefit from the increased connectivity brought by the East Leeds Orbital Road, a 7km route which will link the existing ring road at Red Hall to junction 46 of the M1. The 50mph carriageway will also have segregated paths for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders.

Proposals for a parkway station on the Leeds to Selby line would allow rail commuters to access Leeds, York and Hull.

Around 5,000 people currently work at the business park and The Springs is home to an Odeon Luxe cinema and brands including Boots, H&M, Marks and Spencer, Next, Nando's, River Island, Puregym and a Gino d'Acampo restaurant.
