It means the countdown is now on for homeowners seeking a chance to move into one of Leeds most exciting new developments.

The first of 102 new two and three-bedroom properties are expected to be complete by summer this year.

The development is part of Leeds City Council’s ground-breaking Brownfield Development Programme which is set to regenerate the neighbourhoods of Seacroft, Halton Moor and Osmondthorpe.

The council’s innovative ten-year development plan is the largest single housing deal and represents an innovative approach to regenerating brownfield sites.

Consisting of 13 significant developments, the plan will eventually create a diverse range of 1700 properties in East Leeds as well as create three neighbourhoods with green space, highways and local amenities.

The average price for properties within the Leeds Brownfield developments is £175,386, with 88% of homes sold so far going to first time buyers.

Many of the new homeowners (68%) are aged under 30 and have taken advantage of Help to Buy mortgage schemes.

The developments have also proved popular among local people – nearly 60% of purchasers come from within a five miles radius.

As well as a massive housing boost, the development is also expected to create around 900 news jobs and approximately 84 apprenticeship opportunities.

Both developers involved in the Brownfield Development Plan have pledged their commitment to the successful regeneration of the neighbourhoods through the provision of work experience opportunities and continued engagement with local communities and schools.

Leeds City Council Executive Member for Communities, Councillor Debra Coupar, said: “I’m delighted to see work getting underway on an important development which will make a real difference

to the continuing regeneration of East Leeds. Not only will this project offer potential local job and training opportunities, but when completed, it’ll provide much-needed new housing and demonstrate our long-term commitment to bringing brownfield sites back into use across the city.

“Working with developers on projects like this helps to ensure we achieve sustainable growth for our communities and I look forward to following the progress of Wykebeck Mount and Avenue in the coming months.”

Keepmoat Homes, Regional Director for Yorkshire West, Gary Chambers, said: “This is an exciting time for the Yorkshire West Region as the second phase of the Leeds Brownfield Land Programme commences.

“We’re delighted to be delivering high quality housing at an affordable price in support of Leeds City Council’s extensive regeneration vision, as well as providing local jobs and training opportunities.”
