Going vegan-ish for new special dish at The Alchemist in Leeds

Black fish and chips is next on the menu for Jordan Odu.

I’m an absolute sucker for fashion and trends when it comes to style, so why stop at food? With the vegan movement in Leeds more prominent than ever, I decided to put my carnivorous instincts on hold, channel my inner hipster-hippy and go full-blown vegan at The Alchemist on Greek Street.

Moving Mountains Foods specialise in producing plant-based comfort food, and their burgers are served in places such as Montpelier’s and Harvey Nichols. Here in Leeds, you’ll only find then in The Alchemist, and I have to say, they knock the spots of many of the steak burgers I’ve enjoyed.

Each patty includes 18g of plant based protein and has zero cholesterol, meaning if you’re a bit of a glutton and fancy two, you should be fine. With salad and fries, the Moving Mountains burger is a treat and will turn even the most bloodthirsty meat-eaters.

I would, however, be lying if I said I went all-vegan, as I also tucked into the delicious Deconstructed Lamb Kebab, with houmous, harissa and rice. It’s been a while since I last dined at Alchemist, but they have definitely upped their game.

As I was rocking my new hot pink winter jumper from Topman, I decided the right thing to do was indulge in the creamy Roses cocktail. If you haven’t tried this, it’s absolutely to die-for with its mixture of Bailey’s, Belsazar Red, white chocolate foam, chocolate bitters and rose petals.

A sweet ending to a sweet lunch. I left on a promise to myself to return and work my way through the rest of the new menu. I can’t wait to try Fish and Chips, cooked with charcoal to create black batter.
