Brew York say they are currently the only brewery in York City centre - boasting over 60 taps.

However, beer enthusiasts and owners Wayne Smith and Lee Grabham announced on Twitter that they are to expand into the "amazing beer scene" in Leeds, with their new bar set to open on New Briggate.

Taking to the social media platform, the duo said: "We are so excited to finally reveal we are opening a new bar in Leeds!

"Perfectly situated on New Briggate in the city centre, we can’t wait to be part of the city’s amazing beer scene."

Brew York was founded in 2015 by the pair.

They said their vision is to "make beers with personality that are enjoyed across the globe."

Their brewery started out in York before a taproom and shop was added at the Walmgate location.

A further crowd-funded beer hall and street food kitchen was added in Pocklington in 2020.

The brewery is multi-award winning and scooped the Gold in the Society of Independent Brewers’ (SIBA) 2020 national award rankings in the ‘Bottle/ Can IPA’ category for their core beer, Big Eagle.

Owner Wayne said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be opening a bar in Leeds, one of our favourite cities in the UK.

"It has such a rich and thriving beer scene, and as well as Leeds International Beer Festival being our favourite UK beer festival, we are so excited to be opening in a city that’s home to some of the best modern craft beer breweries in the UK.

"Despite the extreme challenges the whole hospitality industry has faced this year, we are pressing ahead with this opening that’s in line with our overall expansion plans as a business and we can’t wait to be joining the city’s craft beer community.”

The bar will welcome YUZU Street Food as their food partners.

Wayne added: "They will be setting up home in the kitchen, serving up their delicious Asian-inspired street food – bao buns, dumplings, chicken wings and katsu curries."

Due to the national lockdown, an opening date for the bar is yet to be confirmed.
