Leeds gin bar to take drinkers on a trip around the world with re-launch

Popular gin bar Hedonist is set to return as a fresh, exciting bar concept following a number of successful monthly collaborations with leading UK bars.

The bar will see its home of 156 Briggate be completely revamped and relaunched with a carefully curated drinks menu, designed to take bar-goers on a trip around the world at the hands of their character Olivia, The Hedonist.

Journeying around the world

The newly re-designed bar will be sleek and atmospheric, serving as a welcoming haunt to escape and leave the real world behind.

The focus is on comfort, with laid-back seating, contemporary art work on the walls and a remodelled bar all providing a snug space to relax while enjoying a taste tour of the world, exploring all of the best and most original liquors, spirits and cocktails it has to offer.

The extensive and innovative drinks menu will take the form of a travel guide, focusing on one city, region or an entire country.

Developed through the imaginary character of The Hedonist, Olivia, the unique concept aims to allow drinkers to follow her journey and the places she visits, offering an immersive experience that takes you through a world of exciting flavours.

A unique concept

Having first launched in the city in the spring of 2015 as a pop-up bar known as Hogarth's Gin Joint, the original idea was to reinvent the bar with a brand new identity every few months.

The idea quickly built traction and the first notable concept change brought about The Rum Shack, which proved to be an instant hit with locals, with the bar selling more than 800 bottles of rum in just over 10 weeks.

After securing a permanent residence at 156 Briggate, the bar has since gone through a number of popular concepts and style overhauls which have included incarnations as Old Tom's Gin Kitchen, Trader Dan's Surf Shack, the festive Mountain Lodge, and most recently the whisky dive bar, 51st State.

Each concept has been in partnership with major alcohol heavyweights and have seen the bar design themed to perfection.

Welcome to Hedonist

The bar will be hosting monthly takeovers as part of their 'Welcome to Hedonist' series by some of the most notable bars across the UK and Europe, with June welcoming Coupette - a slick French cocktail bar in London.

One of Leeds' greatest exports, Daniel Schofield, from Coupette-Bethnal Green will be taking over the bar for one night only, from 7pm on Wednesday 6 June, with a menu including their award-winning champagne pina colada and the exceptional apples.

Other guests over the coming months include Three Sheets from London, Door 74 from Amsterdam and The Bon Vivant and The Edinburgh Ice Co.
