An intimate bowling experience with game themed cocktails and hearty new menu picks - Roxy Lanes Leeds review

I headed to Roxy Lanes for a spot of bowling and to try the new food menu, which has just launched across its three sites.

The bowling venue is tucked away on Bond Street, a stone's throw from the crowded bars on Greek Street and Park Row.

The four full-size bowling lanes take up most of the venue, with industrial style wooden tables and a large bar to the side of the lanes. It's quieter and more intimate than the Roxy Ball Room venues on Boar Lane and Merrion Street.

There's Roxy lagers and large array of cocktails to choose from and the friendly staff set up our lane before bringing over our drinks.

We were spoilt for choice with the games-themed cocktails but opted for a Ping Star Martini (as the name suggests), Coconut Shuffle (Havana rum, coconut cream and mango puree) and a Quick Puck (Beefeater gin with rhubarb, raspberry and lemon).

With comfortable seating and plenty of room between lanes, it's a far cry from the crowded lanes at larger bowling venues and we could sip our drinks while having a natter and taking our time with the bowling.

After a very competitive game we settled down at a table to indulge in the new menu, which has been expanded with plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.

The nibbles selection is slightly pricey at £5 each or 3 for £12.50, but there were some delicious options including gooey mac n cheese bites, vegan pea and mint falafel with a tangy tahini dip and salty halloumi fries.

I then opted for a classic margherita pizza which was incredibly fresh, with a crispy base, tangy tomato sauce and a fresh garnish of basil.

My companions picked the chicken and bacon burger, made with crispy chicken fillets, melted cheese and crispy bacon, and the cheese and bacon burger.

All burgers are served with the cracked pepper chips, which were more like crispy potato wedges and were deliciously moreish - I couldn't keep my hands off my friends' plates!

The hearty new menu was full of pub classics, but everything was fresh and tasty. It's the perfect filler after a competitive game of bowling, pool or ball games across all Roxy's Leeds venues.
