An American-style diner that will stay open until 6am on weekends has launched in Leeds city centre with a filthy food and drink menu that will cure any hangover.

Harlie’s diner will serve burgers, waffles, cocktails and 40 flavours of milkshake, including some with alcohol, to enjoy in or take out from noon to 6am Friday and Saturday, noon to 4am Monday to Thursday and to 11pm on Sundays.

The new concept diner, located in a converted townhouse on Assembly Street, behind the Corn Exchange, aims to attract families by day and young adults by night.

Leeds-based owner Matt Haycox said: “We want to create a place that does the best American food this side of the Atlantic – and somewhere that people hang out and socialize with friends because the atmosphere, service and staff are so inviting.”

My Haycox added that many of the flavours of his non-alcoholic milkshakes had been selected by his 11-year-old daughter, after whom the diner is named. Signature shakes include Tangfastics, Flying Saucers and Munchies.

Matt Haycox and his eleven year old daughter order food at Harlie's Diner.

He said: “Harlie’s got a great taste in milkshakes and helped me get the right flavour combinations together for our family customers.

“However, when it gets later in the evening we have a great set of alcoholic ‘hard shakes’ too, for those in the party spirit.”

Harlie’s is also working with food delivery companies, Deliveroo and Uber Eats and Mr Haycox plans to open more Harlie’s diners, starting with Manchester later this year.
