The seventh annual Yorkshire Evening Post Oliver Awards came to a head as the winners of the competition were finally announced at a glittering ceremony, with enough glitz and glamour to rival any red carpet.

It was a night which celebrated quality, dedication and teamwork as some of the best restaurants in Yorkshire went head to head in the industry’s most talked about award.

Following months of speculation and dozens upon dozens of restaurant reviews, our panel of judges made their final decisions and it was up to veteran radio and TV presenter Jon Hammond to reveal the winners.

On the night itself, the YEP’s twitterfeed was abuzz with activity as entrants tweeted their comments about the awards.

After the awards, Michelin-starred chef Simon Gueller tweeted: “Six days training and I’m fresh, one awards ceremony and I’m goosed.”

Staff at the Crab & Lobster tweeted: “We are extremely proud to announce we have won ‘Best Lunch’.”

Sukhothai in Chapel Allerton, which scooped Best World restaurant, tweeted: “Woohoo, we won!”

The Man Behind the Curtain - also known as Michael O’Hare - which opened last year off Boar Lane, won Best Newcomer but, true to his elusive persona, he was unable to attend on the night and so the award was collected on his behalf by YEP editorial director Jeremy Clifford.

Celebrity chef Brian Turner even waded into the twitter action, with a shout-out to The Burlington at The Devonshire Arms, which added to its four AA rosettes with a win in the Best Hotel Restaurant category. Brian said:”I am sure you are all proud, congratulations.”

Meanwhile, a tweet from the hotel said they were: “Thrilled to bits.”

The Crab & Lobster, which won Best Lunch, tweeted: “We are over the moon with our award.”
