Days out in Yorkshire: York Maze

York Maze.
York Maze.
Have your say

I’ve always wanted to get inside the head of the legendary Yorkshireman that is Brian Blessed.

Well, on a visit to York Maze I achieved that dream as me and my group of intrepid explorers made our way around the giant corn maze carved into the shape of the man himself, Geoffrey Boycott and Jeremy Clarkson.

Now, on paper, mazes have never appealed to me – but I’m a convert, loving pitting my wits of navigation against every twist and turn and other people’s opinion that you should have gone left and not right!

But York Maze is much more – it’s a huge attraction that can easily keep you busy for an entire day.

There’s a Maze of Illusion that aims to disorientate and the Finger Fortune Maze which has to be experienced to be believed – forfeits await!

A giant sand-floored playground near the entrance gives kids the chance to get stuck in before exploring the mazes.

The Cobstacle Course is next up – think Total Wipeout done with giant inflatable corn structures and you won’t go far wrong. A must.

The covered jumping pillow is a winner for the kids as is the giant slide, plus there’s mini quad biking too.

Crowmania takes you on a tractor ride through the fields to help the scarecrows fend off the crows, but beware – they fight back and you could get wet.

Don’t leave without a dizzying visit to the House of Cornfusion and keep a lookout for the two mascots Sweety and her squeeze, Kernel Kernel.

Superb customer service and a bite to eat from the Yorkshire Dragon BBQ makes this a tasty day out.
