It’s not often you get the chance to actually dress up as your favourite film character, leave the house and go public.
But here’s your chance, as the first ever Wakefield Comic-Con rolls into the city on July 4.
Unity Works will host the major event which has already seen hundreds of tickets sold for the morning session. So a good tip is to either buy your tickets in advance or allow time for queues – although if you do have to wait in line, it’s likely to be a fun, surreal experience stood next to Batman and Spiderman.
The event is set to see TV and film icons appear including Doctor Who star Colin Baker, Ian Whyte of Game of Thrones and Prometheus, and Red Dwarf actors Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn.
It will also see dozens of stalls selling comics, collectables, memorabilia and other movie-related goodies – not to mention special displays and competitions to find a lucky few winners dressed in full outfits (or Cosplay, as it’s known).
It’s the first time it’s happened in Wakefield and the rest of the city is going superhero too.
Trinity Walk shopping centre will be invaded by the Empire as the one and only Darth Vader oversees his latest conquest, closely guarded by one of his elite Stormtroopers.
Apart from dishing out Darkside doom, he’ll also be posing for pictures with shoppers and staff from 11am to 3pm. He’s nice really.
There will also be the heroes in a half shell appearing at The Ridings shopping centre as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles great shoppers to celebrate the day of film across Wakefield.
