Days out in Yorkshire: Scarborough is the place to be to see fast boats

Have your say

After a year of bikes and blokes in Lycra, perhaps heading to the coast to watch some really fast boats scythe through Scarborough’s South Bay waters is just what the doctor ordered.

For the first time ever, the P1 series will be making a visit to Yorkshire’s original seaside resort to serve up a host of marine motorsport with the SuperStock powerboat championship and AquaX jet ski race series.

It will be the opening event of a season that will see racers compete at speeds of up to 70mph for national titles at locations around the country, in elite competition that is completely free to watch.

And with so much excitement on the water, there will also be a range of entertainment for the whole family on Scarborough’s West Pier, including attractions, the opportunity to meet the racers, live commentary and competitions throughout the weekend.

But if one round of world class marine motorsport wasn’t enough for Yorkshire, the P1 series will also be returning to Hull this summer for round three of the competition.

There is plenty of other sights to see including

the imposing Scarborough Castle overlooking both North and South Bay, as well as the ever-popular and eye-catching Sea Life Centre in North Bay.

If you’re stopping over, why not see what’s on the Open Air Theatre, the largest of its kind in Europe? And of course, it’d be rude not to try fish and chips as they should be – fresh from the counter, enjoyed on a bench with a sea view.
