Have your say

This is a formula fun day out to get pulses racing.

If putting the pedal to the metal gets your engine revving, then get yourself on the grid at Pole Position Indoor Karting (PPIK).

Just on the edge of Leeds city centre, it’s an ideal outing for when the weather turns as it’s all indoor.

The massive covered circuit has you zipping around on high powered karts that can hit 50mph.

From the off, you are given the full works – professional clothing, helmet, gloves and a detailed safety briefing plus some handy tips on how to handle the kart.

There’s even a track map which shows the optimum routes around the corners – and there are corners. There’s a bridge too.

You do feel extremely safe, meaning you can get really revved up and enjoy the experience even if you’re a bit nervous like I was.

We geared up and clutched the steering wheel for a 30 minute taster session which was exhilarating.

It felt like warp speed in the giant hanger which houses the track and the sound as you whip down the home straight was straight out the movies – or F1 coverage.

The setup means that you can book with a group of mates or go as a family as they have lower powered karts for youngsters eight and over too.

Top tips are to book ahead and wear light padded clothing to soften those potential bumps on the tight corners.

And even if you can’t drive, don’t let it put you off giving it a go.

As one of the lead marshals told us: “The karts only go as fast as you tell them to!”
