Have your say

A roar of waves, a surge of adrenaline, a leap of faith and your away.

You grip, resist the temptation to bail out and before you know it you’re surfing. Or bodyboarding at least.

But there’s no need to travel thousands of miles or dodge Great White Sharks to indulge in this rather niche experience – just head for the comforts of the Flowhouse inside the amazing Xscape centre in Glasshoughton, near Castleford.

It’s home to two surf simulators pummelling gallons of fairly warm water uphill to create the effect of a real wave.

Our session included everything from full wetsuit to a detailed lesson from an excellent instructor by the name of Casey.

She gave our class a solid of hour of information and the confidence to do some full on surfing.

We were quickly shown how to bodyboard on the waves by lying down on the board and steering. We were soon flying and I even managed to pull off a cheeky roll – one of several possible tricks.

The second half was dedicated to flowboarding. It’s similar to surfing and involves doing it all stood up. It’s hard, but once you relax, you won’t want to get out.

You get a solid hour which seems to last for ages and it’s perfect for almost every age – so long as you don’t mind getting wet or falling off.

Then after a surf and drink in the Flowhouse bar cafe, you can head into the rest of Xscape.

Its home to a giant indoor bowling centre, the Bowlplex, which has a whopping 20 lanes. Perfect for challenging your mates or family.

Add in restaurants, shops, climbing and of course indoor skiing and you could be there for weeks.
