'I apologise' - Sky pundit admits 'outstanding' Leeds United player 'proved him wrong'

The 27-year-old netted his 17th Premier League goal of the season in the Whites’ 3-1 win over West Brom on Sunday afternoon, making him the highest-scoring Englishman in the division aside from golden boot winner Harry Kane.

But while Morrison believes that Bamford could still come up short in his efforts to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championships, the former Crystal Palace forward has also offered an olive branch to the in-form hitman.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special, he said: “I’ll apologise, because at the start of the season I did not think Patrick Bamford would have a season like he’s had because I thought he missed too many chances in the Championship.

"Credit to Patrick Bamford, he has been outstanding. He’s scored all kinds of goals this season, he’s led the line brilliantly.

"With the goals that he’s scored, he should be in with a shout of that England squad. Do I think he’ll make it? He probably won’t, but he’s been outstanding.

"You know what’s good? He’s got a manager who believes in him. As a centre forward you need that. Even if he’s not scoring goals, or he goes two or three games without one, he [Bielsa] knows that Bamford brings a lot to that Leeds team.

"I, for one, have to apologise to Patrick Bamford, because he’s proved me wrong.

"I hope he does make that Euro squad, but I think it will be a struggle.”
