The Whites kicked off the 1982/83 campaign in unfamiliar surroundings - the Second Division, having been relegated from the top flight the previous season. Eddie Gray was the new manager and started reducing the wage bill by loaning Peter Barnes to Real Betis and selling Welsh international winger Carl Harris to Charlton Athletic for £100,000. It was a season which also saw teenagers make their mark. Defender Neil Aspin, striker Tommy Wright, winger Mark Gavin, as well as midfielders John Sheridan and Scott Sellars all experienced first team football. The Whites only lost eight league games but never posed a serious promotion threat as they drew 21 times. Enjoy these rarely-seen photos showcasing a season of new starts and new faces.
