The night Leeds United came within a whisker of silencing the Lions roar

"I thought we'd go on and get the winner, but now I'll sit down with the chairman," reflected Leeds United manager Simon Grayson.

His Leeds United team came within a missed penalty of reaching the League One play off final in 2009. The play-off semi final second leg against Millwall proved a full bloodied affair as the Whites went all out to overturn a 1-0 first leg defecit. The Lions must have felt fate was on their side when striker Jermaine Backford missed a penalty just after the restart. But just minutes later Luciano Becchio put the Whites ahead after he latched on to Ben Parker's cross and slid in between two defenders to poke home. But Milwall's Djimi Abdou broke Leeds hearts after he poked home Lewis Grabban's cross to level the game after 74 minutes and win the tie. "I've got to say the Leeds crowd were magnificent. Walking back myself, they were first class, congratulating us and although it's no consolation they were a credit to their club," reflected Millwall manager Kenny Jackett at full time.
