12 memories of Howard Wilkinson's time as Leeds United manager

Were you one of Sgt Wilko's barmy army?

Howard Wilkinson will be remembered for the glory and pride by a generation of the Elland Road faithful who watched the club's rise to become First Division champions. He still remains the last Englishman to win a top-flight trophy, a fact perhaps under-appreciated in today's global Premier League era. Wilko was appointed in October 1988 and was in charge for 400 games - with a win rate of 43.25 per cent - during an eight year stint which also saw the club win promotion from the Second Division in 1989/90. These rarely seen photos, a mix from the YEP archive, Getty and others published courtesy of Varley Picture Agency celebrate the highs and lows of his reign.
