YEP Best of Health Awards winners are revealed

Heroes of the health field were recognised at the Yorkshire Evening Post Best of Health Awards 2016.

Winners in 10 categories covering everything from marvellous midwives to top teams were announced at a glitzy awards lunch at the Queens Hotel in Leeds.

They were named following dozens of nominations from readers keen to put forward the health worker who had made a huge difference to their lives.

Presenter Nichola Dixon told the attendees: “There was a massive response to the call for entries.

“Every person or team who was nominated has made an impact on someone’s life, so every shortlisted nominee or group should feel incredibly proud of being chosen.

“Our judges had an extremely tough task in picking this year’s winners from an impressive field.”

The winners are:

Carer or Caring Team of the Year

Pam Marcantonio, carer/team leader with Rest Assured Homecare Services

Mental Health Worker or Team of the Year

Mark Thorpe, community recovery worker at Community Recovery Services

Midwife or Midwifery Team of the Year

Sue Oxendale, bereavement support midwife at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust

Community Health Award

Lynda Dexter and colleagues at the Leeds Community Healthcare Podiatry Service (W)

Doctor of the Year

Dr Fiona Schneider, clinical lead of sexual health services run by Spectrum, Wakefield

Unsung Hero

Mick Pungi, ward housekeeper at St James’s Hospital

Practice Manager of the Year

Linda Benn, Greystones Medical Centre, Sheffield

Nurse or Nursing Team of the Year

Craig Russell, ICD specialist nurse at LGI

Team of the Year
