Ed Anderson, the Queen's representative in the county, timed the video to coincide with the national Volunteers' Week, which ends on Sunday.

On releasing the video, he said: “I have written personal letters to a number of organisations such as local authorities, hospitals, care homes, the emergency services and community foundations.

"I have also sent thank you cards to all the 250 charities that have received Covid-19 public funding through community foundations.

“I am conscious, however, that I can only directly reach a small proportion of the many thousands who have contributed to the wave of kindness; so National Volunteers' Week

seemed the right moment to release this thank you video.

"I am hoping that it will be widely distributed throughout the County and may help more of those people to feel that their efforts are greatly appreciated."

Born in Singapore in 1950, Mr Anderson came to West Yorkshire in 1969, and gained a London University external degree in Economics at what is now Leeds Beckett University.

He became a Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire in 2016 and was appointed Lord-Lieutenant on September 1 2018.

He lives near Wetherby with his wife Heather, with whom he has four adult children.
