Professor Sue Pavitt has been working on the condition for a decade and said the honour represents the hard work of “so many people behind the scenes” working to make a difference.

She was not the only winner from the city at the awards, which were hosted by ambassador and DJ Scott Mills. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust was highly commended for supporting employees with the condition, as was fundraiser Kairen Brown, from Barwick-in-Elmet, who raised £18,000 trekking the Great Wall of China.
