A heroic police officer has revealed how he saved the life of a 'young girl' who was stood on the edge of a bridge.

PC Martin Willis, who tweets as Motorway Martin, said he spent 30 minutes talking to the girl overnight in a bid to stop her from stepping off the bridge.

He wrote: "Just spent half an hour stood under a bridge persuading a young girl not to jump off and kill herself. Fortunately she eventually climbed back over the barrier.

"I really thought she was going to do it and it scared the hell out of me. Cannot explain my relief that she is now safe."

A number of people replied to him on Twitter thanking him for his work.
