However in a new announcement, the partner would be able to accompany you once you are shown to the scanning room.

The announcement read: "We are so pleased to share an update from radiology.

"From Tuesday 1st September partners will be able to accompany women attending early pregnancy, dating and 20 week scans.

"Due to the layout of some of our waiting areas, your partner may be required to wait outside of the department, but will be able to accompany you once you are shown to the scanning room.

"This is to allow for social distancing measures.

"As with all hospital outpatient areas, we ask that face coverings are worn by all attending the scan department, and that those attending are not experiencing symptoms of coronavirus or in a self-isolating period."
