'I'm fine': Leeds MP Alex Sobel speaks out after attending conference with coronavirus patient

MP Alex Sobel has reassured the public he is 'fine' as he cancels all upcoming engagements in his North West Leeds constituency.

Mr Sobel has 'self-isolated' after attending the the UK bus summit on February 6 - where an attendee later tested positive for coronavirus.

Although he is at 'very low risk', Mr Sobel called 111 and was formally assessed for the virus and he has advised anyone with concerns to take the same approach.

Public Health England officials have contacted more than 200 people who attended the bus summit in central London, advising them stay indoors and avoid contact with others if they develop symptoms.

Mr Sobel confirmed he was not showing any coronavirus symptoms but cancelled all his engagements until next Wednesday, 14 days after he attended the conference.

Mr Sobel added: "Public Health England gave the advice that I should take reasonable precautions.

"Right now I should be at surgeries with constituents. We thought it a reasonable caution to self-isolate until next Wednesday evening.

"I'm fine. I've got no fever. But as you can present after up to 14 days, I've taken these precautionary measures."

Labour MP for Nottingham South Lilian Greenwood, who also spoke at the summit, tweeted that she had received PHE's letter and had decided to cancel appointments.

She added: "I'm feeling completely well but to be extra-cautious I'm cancelling my public engagements until 20th February. Sorry for any inconvenience."
