Yorkshire hospitals record highest daily coronavirus death total in more than a week

A further 13 people have died at hospital in Yorkshire after testing positive for Covid-19, the latest NHS England figures confirm.

It's the largest daily increase in coronavirus deaths since Tuesday, June 16 - when 20 new deaths were recorded at Yorkshire's hospitals.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed, and for data from the tests to be validated.

A total of 2,815 people have now died at hospitals across the region after testing positive for coronavirus.

The new deaths confirmed across each hospital trust in Yorkshire are as follows:

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 1

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 4

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust - 2

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - 1
