'We'll miss them': Heartbreaking moment Leeds grandparents kiss goodbye through window before lockdown

Lockdown has been initiated by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a speech on Monday.

People will now only be allowed out of their homes to buy essential supplies, to exercise once a day, for medical visits or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person, or to travel to and from work.

However employees should only go to work where it is absolutely necessary.

The new UK measures came into effect last night and will be reviewed in three weeks.

The picture supplied to the Yorkshire Evening Post - taken in Middleton - shows the moment Sharon and Paul Smith blew a kiss to their daughter Zoe Croft and granddaughter Rosie after rushing to their home following the announcement.

Paul Smith explained: "Me and my wife were stood outside blowing kisses to them.

"We didn't go in the house because of the virus,so when Boris made his announcement me and my wife rushed up to do this.

"We're gonna miss them.

"We can facetime but it isn't the same as being with them, we're a very close family."
