Dave Roberts, who was the chairman of Eastmoor Dragons, was admitted to Pinderfields Hospital several weeks ago and passed away in the early hours of yesterday.

Tributes have poured in for the 62-year-old and chairman of Eastmoor Dragons Rugby League Club, who was described as a "true gent".

A Go Fund Me page was set up yesterday to help support his family and in the space of a few hours more than £3,800 has been raised.

The page was set up by Kev Brown, who said: " He was always there to help anybody that needed and he would do anything for anyone as I’m sure you all know throughout the Eastmoor community and the the wider rugby league community."

Mr Roberts leaves behind his wife and two children, with his daughter expecting her first child.

Mr Brown added: " I can imagine that these are going to be tough times ahead so my heart goes out to them.

"Lets get round together to do what Dave would have been the first to do and step up and help a family, show our support for them at what could only be an unthinkable time."

Dragons committee member James Ganley, who had known Mr Roberts for 25 years, said: "He was my first coach and everyone in Eastmoor knew Dave.

"Nobody had anything untoward to say about him. He was a geat guy, friend and coach.

"He played for the club when he was young but had a career-ending injury and has done every job in the club since then.

"He was well known and well respected in the Rugby League community.

"He is known as Mr Eastmoor and I think that's a fair description.

"For me he will be remembered for what he has done for armies of young men, and to some extent young women, in the community.

"I don't think you can measure how much he will be missed. A lot of us are just still in shock."
