The Leeds areas virtually free of Covid as city's infection rate drops below 100 for first time since September

The coronavirus infection rate in Leeds has hit an encouraging milestone.

The rolling infection rate, defined as the number of new cases per 100,000 people each week, has been falling since mid-January. It has now dropped to 98.3, the first time it has broken the 100 barrier since the week ending September 23. Leeds City Council's chief executive, Tom Riordon, tweeted the positive news but warned: "We may have another plateau in rates soon so please do stay in unless essential, keep your distance and take vaccine when called."

Infection rates vary across Leeds and there is even better news for some neighbourhoods. Here are the 18 Leeds areas which recorded less than three cases in the seven days to March 3, the latest available figures.

When a local area records less than three new cases, the Government withholds the exact number of cases to protect the identity of those infected. All images are for illustrative purposes.
