Police patrols at Leeds supermarket to enforce social distancing

Police have been patrolling Morrisons in Morley to enforce social distancing rules.

Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) were helping staff at the store make sure shoppers were staying at least two metres apart from each other on Thursday morning.

They also explained why police officers do not abide by the social distancing rules after members of the public questioned them about it.

"Some officers are students in their ten weeks of tutorship and are with a tutor officer (this applies to both PC'S and PCSO'S) and they are unable to be single crewed whilst in tutorship," the post read.

"Unfortunately the emergency services don't have the luxury of staying two metres apart due to the nature of our roles and the service that we continue to provide to the public.

"Thank you to those who are practising social distancing, for those who still think that the rules do not apply, please stay at home if you do not need to leave your house.

"Please stay safe and look after each other."
