New statistics reveal which Leeds postcodes have had the most coronavirus deaths

Morley and its surrouding villages lost 25 people to coronavirus before April 18

The ONS has divided deaths recorded before April 18 into postcode areas based on each patient's home address.

They show stark differences in the effect coronavirus has had on different neighbourhoods in Leeds.

Pudsey has suffered particularly badly, with 13 deaths across the village's four postcode areas. Guiseley has also had six fatalities, as has Yeadon.

Bramley has had 10 deaths, although the data also includes Upper Armley.

The Carr Manor estate in Meanwood has had four deaths, despite Meanwood itself having none.

The highest death totals in Leeds were recorded in Colton, Austhorpe and Whitkirk (14) and Seacroft North and Monkswood (eight).

Despite a nationwide trend that has seen a disproportionate number of people from ethnic minority backgrounds fall victim to the disease, the opposite is true in Leeds, where areas with high BAME populations have had lower numbers of deaths. Densely populated Harehills has had four and Chapeltown just one.

The areas around Morley have also been badly affected, with a total of 25 people dying across Morley, Churwell, Gildersome, Drighlington, Woodkirk, Tingley and West and East Ardsley.

No deaths were recorded in Kippax, Micklefield, Allerton Bywater, Garforth East, Rothwell Inner, Kirkstall, Burley, Hyde Park, Far Headingley, Weetwood, Meanwood, Swarcliffe, Hollin Park, Fearnville, the city centre, Calverley, Farsley North, Horsforth South, Rawdon, Horsforth East, Tinshill, Bramley Fall and Farnley East. This is despite some of these areas, such as Burley and Kirkstall, being densely populated.
