This is the new date race organisers hope the 2020 Leeds Half Marathon and Leeds 10K can go ahead

Race organisers have announced that an alternative date for both races has been scheduled for November 22.

However, runners have been advised that there are "no promises" that either of the events will take place and the date will remain under review.

An e-mail from Run For All to entrants states: "We are pleased to confirm that we have been able to secure an alternative date and that the event will now be hosted on Sunday 22nd November 2020 alongside the Leeds 10K, which too has been postponed from its planned date of Sunday 5th July.

Runners pass Leeds Town Hall during the 2019 Leeds Half Marathon.

"Whilst this new date has been confirmed with all partners we do need to proceed with caution.

"Like you, we at Run For All are monitoring the situation on a daily basis and seeking guidance from the UK Government as to the next steps with regards the potential for events to take place later this year.

"These events bring so much to our community in Leeds both in terms of improved physical and mental health as well as vital fundraising for charities across the region. And that is why it is so important we don’t make a decision to postpone to 2021 too soon.

"We can’t make you promises that the event will happen this year but what we can promise is that we will put the safety of you the entrant first.

"Therefore, we will continue to review the situation closely and later this year, we will write to you, once the UK Government have confirmed if events can take place this year."

Runners not wanting to take part in the event have the option to defer their entry to 2021.

The message continues: "Should the UK Government announce events can’t take place this year then all entries will be moved to the postponed event in 2021 of Sunday 9th May.

"If you have entered both the Leeds 10K and the Leeds Half Marathon in 2020 and the events go ahead this year we will also write to you to ask you to confirm which event you wish to run in 2020 and which event you would like to defer to 2021.

"At a time like this, pulling together, being united and supporting our community is key.

"We really hope we will see you all on the start line later this year but in the meantime we would ask you to stay safe, stay well and keep active."
