More than 80 KS4 students at Farnley Academy self isolating after positive coronavirus case

More than 80 key stage four students are self isolating after a positive coronavirus case at a Leeds secondary school.

A positive case was confirmed at Farnley Academy, with principal Chris Stokes sending a letter informing and updating families today. (Sep 23)

Following Public Health England’s advice, the school asked 81 students to isolate for the next 14 days.

Those students who have been asked to isolate have been contacted by staff to ensure they are able to access the work set and that they are feeling well, the principal said.

Mr Stokes told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "We can confirm that one of our KS4 pupils has tested positive for Covid 19.

"Following Public Health England’s advice, we have asked 81 of our students to isolate for the next 14 days.

"A letter informing and updating families on the situation has been sent out today.

"In line with Government advice, KS4 students continue to be offered the full curriculum including their GCSE options.

"This has meant that students are sometimes taught in groups outside of their form groups which has accounted for a larger number of students being asked to isolate.

"Each of our isolating students have access to high-quality education through comprehensive online learning, with work monitored daily by our teaching staff.

"Those students who have been asked to isolate have been contacted by our staff to ensure they are able to access the work set and that they are feeling well.

"The health and wellbeing of our students remains our top priority and our pastoral teams will also be working closely with pupils and their families during this time."
