Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust releases statement as Covid-19 death toll reaches 150

The chief medical officer of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has spoken out on the deaths of 150 Covid-19 patients in the trust's care.

Five new coronavirus deaths in Leeds hospitals were confirmed in Friday's update from NHS England.

Four patients died on Wednesday, while one patient died on Monday.

It brings the total hospital death toll in Leeds to 150.

Dr Yvette Oade, Chief Medical Officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We can confirm that sadly, since March 16, 150 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 and were in our care have died.

"Their families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

Across England, 587 new Covid-19 deaths have been confirmed in hospitals, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 17,373.
