The seven-day period ending March 8 had a rate of 99.7 cases per 100,000 people, but this was the last time the rate had broken through the 100 barrier until the latest published rate.

The rate rose to 110.2 cases per 100,000 people in the seven day period up to March 14 - which is the highest the rate has been since the beginning of the month.

In the most recently published rate which was released on Sunday March 21, the rate has begun to creep back down with a rate of 99.9 cases per 100,000 people.

This is the rate which represents the seven-day period ending on March 16.

This follows a fall in the rate which was published on Saturday, which fell from 110.2 cases per 100,000 people on Friday to a rate of 105.4.

There is time taken between when the tests are taken and cases are recorded, to when the rate is recorded.

Rate fall is down to ‘vaccines and following rules'

The CEO of Leeds City Council, Tom Riordan, posts the daily Covid rate on Twitter each day.

The latest rate was recorded on Sunday, when he tweeted that the over 60s rate across Leeds is down to 36.0 cases per 100,000 people.

The positivity rate in the city is at 4.4 per cent, which is a decrease from 4.7 per cent on Saturday.

Mr Riordan said the decreases are down to a combination ‘of around half of adults taking the vaccine, people following the rules to stay in unless vital and keeping distance and wearing masks’.

He said these factors are ‘making a difference’.

The full tweet on Sunday said: “Leeds case rate down to 99.9 per 100k people (from 104.9), over 60s down to 36 & positivity down to 4.4% (from 4.7%.)

“Combination of around half of adults taking vaccine & people following rules to stay in unless vital, keep distance & wear masks in settings is making a difference.”
