Sunday's rate was a drop from Saturday, February 6, when the case rate was published as 219.4 cases per 100,000 people with a positivity rate of 9.5 per cent.

Mr Riordan branded this as "better news on the Leeds case rate" on Twitter.

He tweeted: "Better news today on the Leeds case rate which is down to 219.4 per 100k (from 229.5) and positivity down to 9.5% (from 9.7%).

"Watch out for the flood warnings given the continuing rainfall and please act as if you’ve got the virus by staying in unless essential."

The CEO tweeted on Friday that he hoped for "bigger reductions in cases on the way over the next few days".

The weekend of case decreases comes after the case rate rose in its published rate on Thursday, February 4 after a run of falling cases.

Mr Riordan warned that whilst "one day is not a trend, it does show how we all need to act as though we have the virus" by staying at home and keeping distance if it is essential to go out.

He tweeted: "After a run of lowering case numbers, the Leeds rate has risen to 230.7 (from 225.8) and positivity has gone up to 9.8% (from 9.6%).

"Whilst one day is not a trend, it does show how we all need to act as though we have the virus, staying in unless essential and keeping our distance."
