The Leeds areas with the worst Covid infection rates as first healthcare workers get vaccine

Hopes for an end to the coronavirus pandemic have been raised with the rollout of the first vaccine for healthcare workers in Leeds.

But people are being warned to stick to the rules and “not blow it” in the months ahead, as Matt Hancock said the public must “temper our joy and enthusiasm” at the beginning of the rollout “with the need to keep each other safe”. The Covid-19 infection rate in Leeds has fallen to 143.6 new cases per 100,000 people in the last seven days, down from 179.7 the previous week. But some neighbourhoods remain areas of concern, with higher infection rates than the rest of the city. These 18 Leeds areas had rates of more than 200 new cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to December 3, the latest available figures. Pictures are for illustrative purposes only.
