Kirkstall Festival 2020 cancelled due to coronavirus

One of the largest annual community festivals in Leeds planned for this summer has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Thousands of people were expected to enjoy the 40th Kirkstall Festival in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey on Saturday July 11.

The volunteer run event attracts around 25,000 people each year.

Kirkstall Festival has established itself as one of the most eagerly awaited dates on the city’s summer community calendar

Kirkstall Festival chairman John Liversedge has posted a statement on the festival website.

Mr Liversedge wrote: "Sadly we have to announce that Kirkstall Festival has been cancelled his year.

"It was not an easy decision to cancel this year’s event especially as it was going to be a celebration of 40 years of festivals.

"We’re already turned attention to next year and Saturday July 10 2021.

"Kirkstall is an amazing community, and the festival is our way of bringing you all together in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey.

"During this period of uncertainty communities are important. Protect communities and take care.

"See you 10/7/2021, celebration at our place.

"If you have already booked a stall we will be returning the booking fees. Any queries regarding booking refunds place contact [email protected]."

Attractions at last year's festival included a fairground, more than 160 stalls, a tea dance, as well as eight performance areas, comedy, rock, classical, jazz, folk and light music and a procession and displays.
