Government data figures have revealed how many coronavirus patients are currently in hospitals and on ventilators in England.

According to the data available here, there are 61 people in England currently on a ventilator due to coronavirus symptoms.

That is compared to April 12 - the height of the pandemic - where there were 2,881 people on ventilation beds in English hospitals according to the data.

Figures within English hospitals are the numbers of COVID-19 patients in beds which are capable of delivering mechanical ventilation and includes Nightingale hospitals.

The number of people on ventilation beds in England has therefore decreased by more than 97% since April.

Data are reported daily by trusts to NHS England and NHS Improvement.

In total, there are 694 patients in hospital suffering from coronavirus symptoms in England, data shows.

The data shows the peak of the virus was in April, when a total of 17,172 patients were in hospital.

This shows a decrease in patients in hospital with symptoms of more than 95% since April.

The daily count of confirmed COVID-19 patients in hospital is counted as of midnight the preceding night.

On April 21, 1,123 people died from coronavirus in England.

On August 6, 46 people lost their life to the virus.

This shows a decrease of just over 95% in deaths recorded per day.
