Coronavirus in Yorkshire: More than 2,500 positive tests in UK as schools in Scotland and Wales close

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK has risen to 2,626 as of 9am today, according to the Gov.uk website.

The rise is up from 1,950 at the same time on Monday.

A total of 56,221 people have been tested in the UK, with 53,595 negative results.

It comes as schools in Scotland and Wales will close in response to the coronavirus pandemic, with those in England widely expected to follow suit.

At least 22 primary and secondary schools in Leeds have been hit by closures today due to coronvairus concerns or staff needing to self-isolate.

Thousands of people in Leeds have signed a petition to close all schools in the UK and Boris Johnson told MPs during Prime Minister's Questions that further decisions on schools are "to be taken imminently".
